Couples therapy · Bryn Mawr & the Main Line

Couples therapy in Bryn Mawr and across the Main Line

Most couples do not need to be taught that they argue. They need help seeing the cycle underneath the argument and changing it in real time. Our 50-minute couples sessions are unhurried, intentional, and personalized — in person in Bryn Mawr, or virtually throughout Pennsylvania.

What couples bring to us

Communication that keeps escalating

The same fight in a new costume — we work on the cycle, not the content.

Emotional distance

Nothing is technically wrong, but you have become efficient roommates.

Trust and repair after betrayal

Structured repair work that neither rushes forgiveness nor stalls in blame.

Parenting and household load

Resentment that builds from mismatched labor and unspoken expectations.

Career pressure and time scarcity

High-achieving couples whose calendars have crowded out the relationship.

Intimacy and desire differences

Discussed directly and without shame, with medical contributors considered.

How the work is structured

  1. 1

    Shared first session

Both partners tell the story of the relationship and what brought you in now.

  2. 2

    Mapping the cycle

We identify the trigger, the reaction, and the protective move each partner makes.

  3. 3

    Practicing in the room

New conversations are rehearsed with us present, so they hold up at home.

  4. 4

    Individual care when it helps

If one partner would benefit from individual therapy or psychiatric care, we coordinate inside the practice rather than sending you out.

Frequently asked questions

How long are couples therapy sessions?+

Couples therapy sessions are 50 minutes. Most couples begin weekly, then space sessions out as communication patterns stabilize.

Is it too late for couples therapy?+

Rarely. Couples come to us during rupture, after an affair, during a fertility or parenting strain, and also when nothing is wrong but the connection has gone quiet. The work differs, but all of it is workable.

What actually happens in the first sessions?+

We map the cycle: what triggers it, what each partner does next, and what each of you is protecting. Then we practice interrupting it in the room, not just describing it.

Do you see one partner individually too?+

Sometimes, when it serves the couple's work and both partners agree to the structure. If one partner needs their own therapist or psychiatric care, we can coordinate within the practice.

Do you offer virtual couples therapy?+

Yes, throughout Pennsylvania — helpful when schedules or childcare make a shared in-person hour difficult. Dr. Khorram is also licensed in New York for virtual psychiatric care.

What if we disagree about whether to stay together?+

That is a legitimate reason to come in. Discernment-oriented work helps each partner get clear rather than staying stuck in ambivalence for another year.
